Hedge Farm, is ideal for those looking for an intimate country stay with the charm of rustic buildings (dating back to early 1900’s) and rambling lush green gardens. The 20-acre property is a truly unique accommodation and function venue located just ten minutes from Woodend and Kyneton and one hour from Melbourne. Accommodation is also available for guests attending functions at Hedge Farm. Functions include weddings, food and wine lunches, music afternoons, gallery exhibitions, private functions, workshops and small conferences.
Hedge Farm’s unique accommodation includes, Merino Station and two converted railway vans – Sleepers Van and Brake Van (space for one couple in each – three couples in total).
Our accommodation opened in 2010 with the restoration of Merino Station. It was once a three room railway station and was moved to the property from Merino in the western district of Victoria over 30 years ago. Its romantic country style interior retains much of the charm and character of the 1884 building. The station is now a self-contained cottage with veranda, lounge with open fire-place, fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and bathroom with custom-made egg bath, chandelier and open fire-place. A perfect romantic retreat for one couple with a minimum two-night stay for weekends. The station is particularly loved by brides and grooms and is often part of the package for those who marry at Hedge Farm.
The two railway worker vans were moved to Hedge Farm in the 1980’s and in 2014 were lovingly converted for glamping (glamour camping)– ‘Van’ style. The vans have become popular with outdoor lovers and the adventurous seeking a different accommodation experience. Both vans have their own designated shower room and basin, as well as their own toilet facilities. Showers and toilets are in two separate buildings and only a short walk from the vans. There is no running water in the vans. Both Vans sleep one couple or a single.
A bit of history
The Sleepers Van is a one-room van (3 x 7 metres). Once a railway worker’s van it was originally designed to sleep and house workers who repaired railway tracks around Victoria. It is now fitted out with modern amenities – queen size bed, luxurious linen and electric blanket, electric heating, flat screen TV and DVD, sound dock system, kettle, toaster, microwave and crockery and cutlery.
This cosy van (3 x 7 metres) dates back to the late 1800’s. It is a classic railway brake van and retains features including the original (and still working) pot-belly stove, wood box, brake wheel and worker’s desk. Now the raised brake seats provide a cosy nook for enjoying a glass of wine or playing board games. Refurbishment provides modern amenities – queen size bed, luxurious linen and electric blanket, electric heating, flat screen TV sound dock system, kettle, toaster, microwave and crockery and cutlery.
