Wandering through Woodend will reveal a tapestry of inviting local tipples, beckoning with the promise of artisanal brews and velvety wines.

 

Follow the Treasure Trail

Gather up a Festival bounty of pies, tarts and tipples to enjoy within eight stunning leafy locations! Each of the highlighted Treasure Trail parks is home to a different clue. Collect all eight clues and enter the 2024 competition to be in the running for an amazing Autumn Festival Prize Package.

A Woodend Wonder

Experience the ultimate family adventure in Woodend, a picturesque town located in the northern countryside of Victoria. Escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in stunning landscapes of rolling hills and dense forests, while indulging in the renowned artisanal produce of the region. With its crisp mountain air and enchanting village atmosphere, the possibility of adventure awaits just outside your doorstep. Plus, with only a short distance from Melbourne and even closer to the airport, Woodend is the perfect family getaway.

The Lancefield Triple Tipple Tour is a must-try during the Macedon Ranges Autumn Festival! From handcrafted cocktails to signature beers, this tour offers a variety of delicious drinks for you to savor.

Mount Macedon Nature Escape

Only an hour’s drive from Melbourne, the tiny mountain village of Mount Macedon was originally a summer retreat for the city’s elite of the post-gold rush era of the 19th century. With scenic trails and lookouts in Macedon Regional Park, quality accommodation, cafes and cellar doors, it makes for the perfect getaway for couples and friends seeking a rejuvenating escape to nature.

The Pinot Trail

You could spend days sampling all the delicious Pinot grown and produced in the Macedon Ranges. Here’s a short and sweet half day Pinot Trail to give you a taste of what to expect (and keep you coming back for more).

Forest Bathing & Gin Tasting

Explore the Murmuring Walk sensory audio experience around Sanatorium Lake on Mt Macedon. Then relax with a tipple or two at local gin distilleries and try the region’s award-winning artisan gins.

Conglomerate Gully Hike and Devonshire Tea

Enjoy a beautiful one hour bushwalk in Riddells Creek followed by Devonshire tea at a historic homestead built in the 1800s.

Gardens and Gastronomy

Explore a famous Open Garden in Mount Macedon and a rare plant nursery, followed by local wine tastings and gourmet lunch at a vineyard or pub.

Cycle the Federation Trail

Enjoy a 16km gravel ride that loops between Romsey and Lancefield. This route is considered ‘easy’ and ideal for older children as the path largely travels on a dedicated shared path. Combine it with a visit to the monthly Lancefield Farmers’ Market or a cellar door for a great day out.

Go horse riding through the Wombat Forest then chillax at an urban cellar door hidden in one of Kyneton’s laneways.

Four wineries and a tapestry of dirt roads. ‘Undiscover’ the less-explored wine-growing region of Lancefield. You can even do day one by bike.

 

Autumn Red Wine Lovers Trail

Discover our gem of a wine region on an autumn red wine lovers trail from Malmsbury to the Cobaw Ranges.

Camels, Llamas and Parmas

Kick off with an early morning hike to the top of Camels Hump on Mt Macedon, go on a guided llama trek to Hanging Rock Reserve, then refuel with a pub parma and local craft beer in Woodend.

Bikes, Beer and Burgers

Go mountain biking in the Wombat State Forest followed by burgers and beer in the nearby village of Woodend. Organised small group guided bike tours including equipment are available.

When you’ve finished hiking and picnicking at Hanging Rock, or exploring nearby Mt Macedon, complete your day with a scenic 40 minute drive along stunning country vistas and landscapes. It’s a particularly beautiful drive to enjoy during autumn.

A glorious one hour country drive that takes you from the beautiful Gisborne Botanic Gardens, through the forests of Cherokee and Kerrie. Experience brilliant views of Hanging Rock and visit the beautiful village of Woodend and its fabulous country pubs. Take your time and stop along the way.

Book a cheeky night away in this hip country town. It’s time for a romantic getaway, Kyneton style.

This scenic 75-minute loop from Woodend to Malmsbury takes in five historic villages. A beautiful trip for garden lovers, green thumbs and folk who just love a journey through the countryside. There’s so much to see and do on this drive you’ll want to repeat it again and again.
