Coffee and Nurseries | Woodend

Enjoy coffee and a nursery wander in leafy Woodend

The Macedon Ranges is home to a wonderful array of local nurseries to excite green thumbs and plant lovers! This itinerary takes in the villages of Woodend and Kyneton, along scenic backcountry roads.

Begin your morning in charming Woodend. Here you can wander through the village’s two nurseries, laden with plants, giftware, advice and essential gardening supplies.

The wonderful and intimate Woodend Nursery and The Gardener’s Path are located in the heart of town amongst a bevy of wonderful cafes.

After you’ve stocked up on plants, enjoy a coffee or picnic under the autumn leaves before embarking on your next leg to a specialist begonia nursery (open limited months during autumn).

Begonia Heaven | Ashbourne

Visit a Tuberous Begonia & Fuchsia Show

Leave Woodend and head into the countryside. Wind your way up gumtree-lined Ashbourne Road to the Tuberous Begonia & Fuchsia Show at White House Nursery.

Take in the vast display of majestic begonias and wide range of fuchsias. There are hundreds of nursery-grown Tuberous Begonias for sale in pots, hanging pots for baskets, and on display.

Each begonia there has its own DNA, so you have naming rights for each plant you purchase. A lovely memento of your Macedon Ranges day out, or a unique gift idea!

Open every weekend until 10 May 2022 from 10am till 4pm.

Wander the stunning gardens of a two acre nursery

Head towards Trentham East along scenic backroads, turning right at the historic Pig and Whistle Hotel which dates back to the 1860’s.

Continue up James Lane to Tylden, the home of Spring Hill Nursery, Garden & Cafe. The nursery covers two acres, with a stunning, established garden you can stroll in between browsing their extensive selection of plants.

Sit a while, smell the roses and enjoy a warm bowl of pumpkin soup, coffee and delicious treats in their cafe, either al fresco or inside by the fire.

Historic Village & Nursery | Kyneton

Visit historic Piper Street and one final nursery

Continue to Kyneton either via Springhill or Kyneton South, passing by the Upper Coliban Reservoir, a popular fishing spot.

The Kyneton Botanic Gardens are on your left as you approach Kyneton. If you have time, park inside the gardens and stroll under the autumn leaves. The Campaspe Riverwalk is a particularly beautiful and peaceful walk to enjoy.

The final nursery visit of the day is the Garden Tap Nursery, just off Kyneton’s historic Piper Street.

The Garden Tap Nursery specialises in rare and unusual plants, amongst other garden classics, along with garden art by local artisans.

End the day with a browse through Piper Street’s wonderful shops and galleries. Just across the road from The Garden Tap is Kyneton’s famous Piper St Food Co., known for their traditional pork pies. Or stop into nearby Animus Distillery for a G&T.

If you feel like another coffee and a cheeky slice of cake before hitting the road, there are plenty of cafes to settle into.

Wind your way back to Woodend. Or for those planning an overnight stay, extend your nursery and garden hopping journey to Mount Macedon’s Dicksonia Rare Plant Nursery and Forest Glade Open Gardens.
