‘The Block Macedon Ranges’ Day Explorer

Calling all Blockhead fans! Want to get a taste of the Macedon Ranges, home to the 2022 season of The Block Country? Here’s an easy one day trip that takes in Gisborne, Mount Macedon, Hanging Rock Reserve and Woodend.

Be a Blockhead | Gisborne

Kick off in Gisborne, home to The Block Country 2022

Rise early and head to Gisborne, home to The Block Country 2022. When you arrive into town, get a takeaway coffee and enjoy a tranquil walk from Gisborne Botanic Gardens, along Jackson’s Creek Walk, and through to Sankey Reserve.

Tip: Drop by Jumbuck Sheepskin & Leather for your own Akubra to get into the country vibe.

Scenic mountain drive | Mount Macedon

Get a dose of fresh mountain air

Take a scenic drive up the mountain to the village of Mount Macedon, winner of Victoria’s Top Tiny Tourism Town for 2022. Stop in town for lunch at the local pub or cafe, or pre-book a delicious meal at the wonderful Mount Macedon Winery or Mount Towrong Vineyard.

Once you’re refueled, continue further up the mountain to the summit, where you’ll find Mt Macedon Memorial Cross.

After Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance, Mt Macedon Memorial Cross is considered the most significant war memorial in Victoria. The imposing structure stands 21 metres high and commemorates all those who served in wars and conflict.

Make sure to clock a return visit another day, to explore the many forest trails through Macedon Regional Park. Or the spectacular Forest Glade Gardens on the slopes of Mt Macedon.

Hanging Rock Reserve | Woodend

Hike the Summit Trail at iconic Hanging Rock

Leaving the mountain behind it’s time to head to Hanging Rock Reserve, near the village of Woodend.

Let the secrets of Hanging Rock unfold before your eyes as you wind your way up to the pinnacle where spectacular views await. You’ll also be guaranteed to spot plenty of wild kangaroos hopping through the reserve. Quench your thirst after your hike at the onsite Hanging Rock Cafe.

Tip: Plan a return visit and pre-book an experience with Hanging Rock Llama Treks that will take you on a llama-guided walking tour to Hanging Rock Reserve.

The incoming gate to Hanging Rock Reserve closes at 4.00pm, so you must enter the reserve prior to this time. All visitors must exit by 5.00pm.
