More from Yvonne O’Connell Artist
Yvonne O’Connell is a Macedon Ranges artist working from her private garden studio. Through drawing and painting, she captures the essential character of her subjects, whether portrait, figure, still life or landscape. Her recent work is grounded in close observation, personal photography and a deep connection with the natural environment, both locally and through landscapes encountered overseas.
Yvonne works with a strong, expressive visual language, using charcoal and paint to create confident marks that carry presence and energy. She understands mark-making as a direct and powerful exchange between artist and viewer, communicating what has been seen, felt and experienced.
“As an artist, I pay close attention to the world around me: the textures, colours and forms of everyday life; the lines that create pattern and define shape; the play of light across a surface; and the drama of shadow. I do not begin with a fixed end point. Instead, I work responsively with the materials, allowing each piece to develop with clarity, intention and openness to new possibilities.
If you would like to learn more about my art practice or find an original artwork for your home or purchase a small gift please come along to visit me in my studio during Open Studios Macedon”.
