More from Colleen Weste Silk Artist
COLLEEN WESTE has had a fascination for many years for dyeing cloth to create unique wearable art and wall quilts in silk. She is skilled in handpainting silk, shibori resist dyeing and machine embroidery.
Inspired by the natural environment around my bush studio, my art connects me to a place within nature and to an understanding off our oneness with the universe.
My passion is creating colour and texture on silk. The technique of arashi shibori with its unpredictable and irregular patterns like the changing patterns of wind driven rain symbolises earth as does the technique of ecodyeing with leaves on silk.
My silk art quilts express the richness of colour in both two and three dimensional form The quilts are imprints of time, conveying movement while expressing the colours of nature and most often the calling sounds of birds.
Colleen is author of the book Silk Painting (Penguin) and Shibori/Silk Painting for Art to Wear and Silk Art Quilts and has a Grad Dip in Textile Design from RMIT.
