Cuttlefish Casting Workshop

Learn to cast pieces of jewellery and small sculptures using cuttlefish bone.
Kyneton VIC, Australia

Learn to cast pieces of jewellery and small sculptures using cuttlefish bone. This fun method of casting has been used for thousands of years.

You can see some of the amazing pieces that can be cast using cuttlefish bone and the lovely pattern that’s applied to the piece when it’s cast on my Pinterest board

In this full day workshop, you will learn to carve cuttlefish bone and how to set up your cuttlefish bone mould, so you can successfully cast your design. We work with sterling silver in this workshop, which is included in the fee. You can also bring your own gold jewellery to melt down and cast into a new piece of jewellery. No previous experience is necessary.

Workshop includes:

  • Gourmet lunch
  • Morning/afternoon tea
  • Tools and equipment
  • A sterling silver piece weighing up to 15 grams
  • Written instructions
  • List of suppliers
  • Tool list

WARNING: If you are allergic to shellfish or crustaceans, do not cast in cuttlefish.

If you would like to make a more intricate or complex ring, rather than one with a cuttlefish pattern, then you might want to consider the Lost Wax Carving Workshop. Please note, lost wax carved pieces are not cast in Pod Studio, and are cast in Melbourne.
