Tucked away in the cool-climate hills of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, Merth is a small-scale, family-run vineyard committed to making beautiful wine — grapes that reflect the land, the seasons, and the joy of sharing a bottle.

Back in 2017, Neil and Erin set foot on 150 acres overlooking Mount Macedon, Hanging Rock and the local reservoir — simply gorgeous. Less gorgeous were the gazillion pine stumps stretching as far as the eye could see. Thus began a years-long project of re-loving the land.

We stump-ground 50 acres and still watch daily as Mother Nature grinds through the rest — her slow reclamation moves at the speed of wood. We planted multi-species green manure crops (legumes, tap roots, forbs and grasses), followed by a permanent pasture to rehabilitate the soil in readiness for a six-acre vineyard.

In early 2023, we planted three clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer. These will be harvested in autumn 2026 as our first estate vintage.

Alongside this, we make simply stunning Pet Nat, Riesling, Roussanne Viognier, Rosé and Sangiovese Nouveau from Macedon Ranges and Heathcote fruit. Working with local grapes sits at the heart of our winemaking philosophy, alongside minimal intervention and close attention to natural processes.

We farm with minimal intervention and maximum attention, letting the soil, the site and the fruit guide us. Our vines are tended gently, our grapes picked by hand and our wines made simply — wild-fermented, unfiltered and bottled with care. Every step is intentional, and every vintage tells its own story.

The name Merth is a play on both mirth (good cheer and laughter) and Mother Earth — a tribute to the connection between nature and joy that underpins everything we do. We revere energising, honest work and always aim to do it with a smile!

We believe wine should feel alive — expressive, vibrant and full of personality. That’s why we work with small parcels, natural processes and, most importantly, curiosity. Our wines are made for good meals, long afternoons and moments of connection.
