Marian Alexopoulos – Mixed Media Artist.
From my studio I can observe the outside backdrop of trees and native grasses studding the seasonal creek, and in my art practice I enjoy this reference as I create colour, lines and textures as well as mood. My work generally includes elements of collage which I make using various implements ( found or made or from the Op shop) dipped in inks and paint or scratched through wet layers. The realm of Mixed Media offers an abundance of applications, including dry media such as charcoal, pastel, graphite, coloured pencils and a diverse range of soluble colour, inks and paints. I employ plenty of recycling and almost nothing gets wasted. I really love the variety of combinations available to the creative process and never tire of bringing them together in exciting ways. It’s amazing how a few lively scratched lines with wet ink can give joy! My favourite surfaces are paper and panel boards, though I often use canvases for larger work. Sometimes I switch entirely to the unique technique of Encaustic, deploying layers of hot pigmented wax. A whole new world opens up!
