Artist Bio: Jali Buba Kuyateh & Afro Diyaa

Rarely do you see such a complete musician as Jali Buba Kuyateh. Born in Casamance, the southern region of Senegal, Jali Buba grew up living between , neighbouring countries, The Gambia and Senegal, now living in Victoria. Jali Buba comes from a griot (hereditary musician) family, where he has played kora since the age of five. He had composed 3 tracks by the age of ten. Jali comes from the famous Kuyateh family of Medina Wandifa. All his brothers and sister play kora, sing and dance. His father and mother are highly regarded musicians known throughout Senegambia and Guinea. His older brother, Jali Lamin Kuyateh, is also a master kora player who performs internationally with his band Silaba.

Jali has appeared at festivals around Australia including WOMADelaide, The Melbourne International Festival, Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals, to name a few.

Jali has blended his two bands, Diyaa Looloo and Afro Dizzi Act, to create his latest musical showcase Afro Diyaa, a highlight for this group included performing alongside Toumani Diabate at Hamer Hall in 2o10.

Jali Buba Kuyateh has the ability to captivate an audience with a band or on his own. Jali is Senegambia’s, best kept secret, now residing in Australia!

We are wheel chair accessible from the carpark to the restaurant and cellar door. Unfortunately due to the terrain the sculptures in the landscape may not be accessible. We have both accessible and disabled toilet facilities within the Cellar Door building.
