Ranging the Ranges, by Itta Somaia – Solo Exhibition
Ranging the Ranges
An exhibition of new works by Itta Somaia
Itta Somaia, a recent resident of the Macedon Ranges, has captured the dramatic beauty of her new home in a vibrant new body of work.
An avid hiker, she regularly sets out with her painting kit, stopping to record fleeting moments of colour and light, that define the local landscape.
Deeply influenced by the Impressionist movement through her family of artists, Itta has developed a bold intuitive style. She begins with acrylic under-painting before completing each piece in water-based oils. Working with generous quantities of paint, she favours palette knives to build rich a textured surface. Itta incorporates oil sticks to capture the childlike joy she feels when encountering the vivid colours and blazing sunsets around the Ranges. Scratchings and squiggles reveal glowing under-layers, creating depth and luminosity that invite the viewer to step into each scene.
The exhibition features two commanding 120 × 80 cm paintings ideal for elevating lounge or gathering spaces, alongside a selection of smaller works perfect for intimate reading nooks or office corners. All pieces celebrate the artists’ mission: to bring abundant colour and light into homes and working spaces.
Exhibition dates: 1 June – 4 July 2026
