Movies on the Hill – A Fare to Remember
Our second MOVIES ON THE HILL event takes us by Black London Taxi from Buckingham Palace to (if all goes well) the Sydney Opera House.
The Queen sent her closest friend Dame Edna Everage out to wave off Betsy, the taxi, and set the meter going, headed to Australia via Ireland as the Irish passenger, Ned Kelly by name, wanted the taxi blessed by a priest. The blessing was timely, as quite a lot could go wrong. The European alps, the Baluchistan Desert in Pakistan and several deserts in Australia had to be crossed. The Taliban had to be avoided in Afghanistan and the Ayatollah and his revolutionary guards avoided in Iran. And a million holy cows had to be avoided in India. And being a taxi, it was obliged to pick up a few passengers along the way, including a monkey and an elephant. And all the while the meter was ticking.
It was a crazy but true bicentennial adventure, set to rollicking road music. Woodend local, Michael Dillon, who filmed it all, will be there to tell you more.
Movies on the Hill is an initiative of St Mary’s Mission. Each event supports a local organisation, this time WOODEND LIFESTYLE CARERS who offer respite for those caring for people with Dementia. Adult ticket price includes a glass of wine, tea or coffee. Snacks are available to buy.
