Film Night: Documentary ‘The Diplomat’

This is the story of Nobel Laureate His Excellency Dr Jose Ramos-Horta whose life has been devoted to the independent nation of Timor- Leste.
Norma Richardson Hall/Buckland St, Woodend VIC, Australia

The documentary follows his story from the time of the 1975 Indonesian invasion of East Timor, until the arrival of International Peacekeeping Forces in 1999 to help ensure the Timorese gained the independence that they had just voted for.

Dr Ramo-Horta’s life has been devoted to the East-Timorese people, serving as foreign minister in exile following the Indonesian invasion in 1975 through to his triumphant return in 1999, where he subsequently served as both President and Prime-Minister of the newly created independent nation of Timor-Leste, – the culmination of his life’s work.
