Exclusive Wine & Cheese Masterclasses

The highlight of our Bastille Day Weekend is two exclusive Wine & Cheese Masterclasses on Sunday.

We’re delighted to welcome Matt Steele, Associate of the World Academy of Cheese and one of Australia’s most respected cheesemongers from Cornelius Cheesemongers and The Brunswick Cheese Room. Matt has spent years championing artisan cheesemakers and sharing the remarkable stories behind their craft. His relaxed and engaging presentation style makes every tasting both informative and entertaining.

Joining Matt is Hanging Rock Winery General Manager Ruth Ellis.

A fifth-generation Australian wine industry professional, Ruth has spent her life immersed in wine, having grown up at Hanging Rock Winery. She holds a degree in Wine Marketing and Business and has been a national wine judge for more than a decade. Her lifelong connection with cool-climate wines and passion for sharing the winery’s story make every tasting experience both educational and welcoming.

Together, Matt and Ruth have carefully selected four exceptional artisan cheeses and paired them with four Hanging Rock wines. Throughout the masterclass, they’ll explore why each pairing works so beautifully, discussing flavour, texture, balance and the subtle characteristics that create memorable combinations.

Whether you’re an experienced wine enthusiast or simply curious to learn more, these sessions are designed to be relaxed, engaging and accessible. You’ll leave with a greater appreciation for both artisan cheese and cool-climate wine, along with practical tips to inspire your own entertaining at home.

The masterclasses are $50 per person, with only 40 tickets available across the two sessions. We expect these intimate experiences to book quickly, so early reservations are recommended.

A Taste of France

Across the entire Bastille Day Weekend, our Cellar Door menu will celebrate the comforting flavours of French-inspired winter dining.

Warm up with our Estate-grown Speckle Park Beef Bourguignon, slow-cooked to develop rich, comforting flavours and served with steamed potatoes. Made using beef raised on our own property, it’s a wonderful showcase of the quality produce grown here at Hanging Rock Winery.

For those seeking a lighter option, we’ll also be serving a delicious vegetarian quiche accompanied by a fresh seasonal salad.

No winter visit would be complete without a glass of our much-loved mulled wine. Richly spiced and gently warmed, it’s become a favourite tradition during the cooler months and is the perfect companion as you settle in and enjoy the vineyard views.

Relax beneath our heated all-weather marquee overlooking the vineyard, Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon, or simply enjoy a leisurely afternoon with friends and family while taking in the spectacular scenery.

We’re also proudly dog-friendly, so your four-legged companions are welcome to join you on a lead while you explore the grounds and enjoy the fresh country air.
