Amongst the Trees
Macedon-based artist and member of The Gallery, Yvonne O’Connell, invites you to her exhibition in the focus room at The Gallery Mt Macedon from Tuesday July 7 to Sunday August 2, 2026.
Yvonne says, ‘During my travels last year to various European destinations, I was inspired by the majesty of the broad leaf trees in summer. I was entranced by the dappled sunlightdancing and creating patterns on woodland floors as well as admiring the gnarled and knobbly textures of the ancient oaks”.
She was deeply saddened by the felling of the Sycamore Gap Tree in Northumbria.
On her return to Australia, Yvonne turned her attention to the beauty of our Australian trees realizing they were equally impressive. There began her obsession for trees! Yvonne’s work aims to capture the essence of those observations through various marking techniques using charcoal and acrylic paint, exploring a whole range of possibilities when she works.
Yvonne shares that she doesn’t visualize an end result rather she takes an explorative journey; constantly reflecting and adjusting her processes.
