Caravans and camping in the Macedon Ranges

Planning on caravanning or camping in the Macedon Ranges? Here’s the low down on what you need to know.

Kyneton Mineral Springs Reserve

Kyneton offers free overnight parking for up to 48 hours for RVs and caravans at the Kyneton Mineral Springs Reserve located at 200 Burton Ave. Limited spaces are available and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are requested to only park in marked, signposted bays. There is access to toilets and potable water. A fuel station is located directly across the road where you can get hot coffee. Camping in tents is not permitted.

*Please note closest dump points are in  Daylesford and Harcourt.

Free RV parking (for up to two hours)

The following sites offer free parking for up to two hours for Recreational Vehicles, for easy access to shops and services.

Kyneton

Mollison Street, opposite showgrounds.

High Street at the Visitor Information Centre.

Woodend

Margery Crescent, off High Street near the Visitor Information Centre.

Gisborne

Aitken Street, East Services Road.

Romsey

Melbourne-Lancefield Road (service road opposite the Council Service Centre)

Caravan Accmmodation

Treetops Camp & Activity Centre

Treetops Camp & Activity Centre is in a natural bushland setting located on Royal Parade in Riddells Creek. It offers camping facilities for over 500 people, eight powered caravan sites and access to self-contained cabins.

Wombat State Forest

Firth Park is an old sawmill site in the northern section of Wombat State Forest. There is plenty of room for free camping in tents, but limited space for caravans and camper trailers.

Address: Firth Park – Firth Road, Trentham East

The site is managed by DELP.

Lerderderg Campground

Lerderderg Campground is 5km from O’Brien’s Crossing on Upper Chadwick Track and has picnic tables, toilets and fireplaces. Fires are permitted only in the fireplaces provided. No bookings or fees. Camping is on a first come basis. Dogs on leads are permitted.

This site is managed by Parks Victoria.

Please note: No camping is permitted at O’Briens Crossing.

Amblers Crossing

Camping is permitted at the campground. Amblers Crossing is 4WD or walk-in access only. Due to terrain and track surface this area is accessible in dry weather only. Campers should be prepared for a basic bush camping experience and be self-sufficient with drinking water. Carry water or know how to make untreated water safe for drinking. Walk-in bush camping is permitted in the Conservation Zone, but solid fuel fires are prohibited. No bookings or fees apply. Camping is first come basis.
