Situated a picturesque 20 min walk (5 min drive) from Woodend’s town centre, The Back Shack is a self-contained, retro bungalow attached to the back of a large house, perfect for couples or singles.

Spacious, self-contained bungalow true to its 1970’s vintage

A Character-Filled Retro Bungalow Close to Central Woodend

If you’re looking for The Hilton, The Back Shack is not it.

It is however an older-style, character-filled bungalow with features true to its vintage – namely a bold 70’s-inspired colour scheme, rudimentary mission brown / mustard bathroom with simple, functional decor and a very spacious, colourful living / dining and kitchen, as well as huge carpeted bedroom.

In all, it’s designed to be a super comfortable, clean base with a relaxed vibe and modern amenities (coffee, tea, seasonal Castlemaine Muesli and plenty of pantry staples) from which you’ll no doubt make some fabulous holiday memories.

The Back Shack sits at the back of a 5 bedroom, double storey house situated on 1.8 acres of beautiful Woodend bushland, only a 5 min bike ride or leisurely 15-20 min stroll to the centre of Woodend, where you’ll find plenty of cafes, shops and pubs, including Woodend’s always-popular Holgate Brewhouse and taproom. You’ll have your own separate entry and private area of garden to enjoy, along with loads of space for parking. You may spot a Kangaroo or two, a possum, wombat and lots of native birdlife on your stay.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s no short supply of flies and mosquitoes around the place / in the Macedon Ranges in the warmer months (as is the case anywhere in the Australian bush/forest), but we’ve left loads of insect repellent, candles and other armour for you to ensure maximum comfort throughout your stay.

Unfortunately as much as we’d love to welcome pets, the broader property isn’t secured for them, so we remain pet-free for now.
