What is a Railway Station without refreshment rooms?

Unthinkable, that’s what. Here, at the Old Railway Station and Station Master’s Residence, Lancefield and even though the last train pulled out 6 decades ago in December 1956, we still carry on the tradition of catering to the refreshment needs of travellers.

TABLE SERVICE – certainly first class with friendly staff attending to your every need. Old fashioned manners count for a lot here.

AMBIANCE – unashamedly old fashioned with Victorian Railway history all around you. Dine in either the Ticket Office, the Station Master’s sitting room, the original Boy’s bedroom or al fresco on the verandah.

THE FOOD – once again, first class. Sunday mornings begin at 9am sharp with scrumptious breakfasts morphing into brunch. State of the art morning meals have been an institution in our Bed and Breakfast since 1999, as attested to in our Visitors’ books. Light lunches are also popular with our heroic gourmet salads and accompanying ‘sides’ such as house-made country pies, quiches and of course, special dishes of the day. Here at our Railway Refreshment Rooms, soup is definitely a filling dish, always served with either plain or toasted sourdough and butter curls. Decadent Devonshire Tea is available all day and the hero of the afternoons is always and ever, our delicious Victoria Sponge. Vegetarian and vegan diets are catered for.

We cater for singles just wanting to read the paper and savour our locally roasted coffee, up to finger food groups of 20 or so. Whatever your needs, come and relax by the fire, soak up the atmosphere of the Old Railway Station, Lancefield and let your mind wander back to the gentle days of steam travel and good cups of tea.
