The Macedon Ranges is known for its fine dining establishments and wineries but you can just as easily stock up at our quality providores, food stores and many farm gates in the area before throwing down a rug and enjoying wonderful produce in a quiet outdoor setting.
The Macedon Ranges has an abundance of parks and picnic spots spread across the length and breadth of the region.
Hanging Rock Reserve’s shady picnic grounds and wide expanses of lawn, plus the iconic Rock, are perfect for get-togethers of all sizes, from small family outings to larger, more sprawling gatherings.
Up on the summit of Mount Macedon, there are six picnic grounds along the ridge of the range, all easily accessed by the roads and walking tracks that link the area. Nearby, Sanatorium Lake picnic ground combines a beautiful lakeside setting with a number of walking tracks.
Enjoy a quiet lunch in the shady surrounds of the Lions Park Reserve in Riddells Creek, with its BBQs, children’s playground and other facilities that are surrounded by natural bushland, a quaint timber Catholic Church and the grand timber Mechanics Institute built in 1875, or perhaps Jean Hayes Reserve in historic Kyneton. At Lauriston Reservoir, you can visit an historic cemetery.
The Kyneton Botanic Gardens and Malmsbury Botanic Gardens are other wonderful spots for a slap-up outdoor lunch.
