Visit Hanging Rock

Hanging Rock Reserve is without a doubt the star attraction of the Macedon Ranges. Located on the outskirts of Woodend, the reserve is the perfect space for family picnics and barbecues, bushwalks and fishing in the dam.

The most popular activity is hiking to the summit of ‘The Rock’, passing its namesake Hanging Rock landmark along enroute. There are also fabulous events held at Hanging Rock Reserve throughout the year, including ranger-guided night walks, outdoor concerts featuring the likes of Sir Elton John, craft markets, vintage car shows and fun runs.

Sanatorium Lake

Located in Macedon Regional Park, Sanatorium Lake is the perfect place for a bushwalk when visiting Mt Macedon.

The 2.5km Sanatorium Lake Eco-Trail is perfect for families and nature lovers. The trail links with the 29km Macedon Ranges Walking Trail, which incorporates most of Mount Macedon’s other scenic highlights, including Camels Hump and Memorial Cross.

Alternatively, Sanatorium Lake Murmuring Walk experience offers an audio-guided walk reflecting the environment, birdlife and natural rhythms of the lake. Participants are invited to wear headphones connected to their personal device and enter a contemplative space as they are led by a sublime multilayered vocal and poetic soundtrack.

Camels Hump

Feel like some outdoor exercise combined with great views? Camels Hump, a rocky outcrop on Mt Macedon,  is the highest peak in the Macedon Ranges at 1011m and offers superb views of the surrounding countryside. It’s a steep ascent to the top but worth it!
