Christmas Country Shopping Experience
Avoid crowded city shopping malls. Get all your Christmas shopping done in the Macedon Ranges, then chill with a gin cocktail on Kyneton’s historic Piper Street.
Get an early start in Woodend
There’s no need to battle with crowded shopping centres out this way. Simply park along Woodend’s High Street and you’ll find everything you need at your fingertips.
But first, start the morning with coffee in one of the many inviting cafes Woodend has to offer.
The majority of Woodend’s shops are along High Street, where you’ll find everything from on-trend clothing and lifestyle giftware, bookstores and a beautiful kitchen shop for passionate cooks. There’s even a store specialising in 100% Australian made products.
When your legs start to tire, head to one of two fantastic local pubs for lunch. And if you have a friend or relative that loves craft beer, make sure to drop into Holgate’s Tap Room for their fantastic gift packs.
*Due to limited capacity in cafes and restaurants, plan ahead and pre-book a table.
You'll be amazed at Kyneton's creative retail scene
It’s only a 15 minute drive from Woodend to Kyneton, where you’ll find a long stretch of interesting and creative shops along historic Piper Street.
Not only does this town ooze charm from every bluestone building, it offers unique and creative finds you wouldn’t see elsewhere.
Here you’ll be able to get your fresh Christmas Tree from Rodilesa Plant Nursery. Stock up on gourmet Christmas relishes, sauces, terrines and treats from the famous Emelia’s and Piper St Food Co. And snap up some gorgeous plants and pots from The Garden Tap Nursery.
And did we mention gift stores and clothing? There are gift and lifestyle stores spread along Piper Street from the contemporary to old-wordly. From hats and jewellery to candles to clothes to garden art and wall art, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect gift for even the hardest person to buy for.
Set aside some time to venture along Mollison Street and High Street too. You’ll find some gems that are worth checking out, including the beautiful gift and lifestyle store Mollisons, and wonderful local crafts, jewellery and artworks at The Old Auction House Gallery.
Don’t forget the kids either. Squishy Minnie Bookstore is a must for the most amazing selection of children’s books.
End the day with a cool gin cocktail at Piper Street’s Animus Distillery (plus pick up some of their bottles as gifts while you’re there). Again, make sure to pre-book in advance to guarantee a table.
If this all seems like a lot to pack in, why not turn it into an overnight getaway and book yourself in for a massage or manicure the next day at Maiaveda or Ellenis Day Spa? You can easily spend day two tasting wine at nearby cellar doors for the perfect bubbles for pressies or to grace your Christmas table.
