Bookings are open for Wedge Tail Studio’s Winter School Holiday Program. The program is packed full of fun and creative activities for ages 6+
MARVELLOUS MUSHROOMS – 14 July, 10am-12pm
Kids may not like to eat them but mushrooms are so much fun to draw. Join me to create either a single mushroom for the younger ones or a more elaborate Fungarium inspired by a wonderful book by Katie Scott and Ester Gaya.
Artists will use watercolour, pencils, and paint pens on quality watercolour paper to produce their beautiful artwork.
CUT PAPER FACES – 14 July, 1pm-3pm
This activity is a fun and vibrant way to express a super colourful version of yourself or someone you love. Make magic happen with layers of bright coloured paper, scissors, and glue. Bring a friend and make a portrait of each other.
WATERCOLOUR SEA TURTLES – 15 July, 10am-12pm
Everybody loves a sea turtle, how could you not, they’re adorable! In this activity young artists will guided through a step-by-step process on how to draw a sea turtle, followed by demonstration of some watercolour techniques and suggestions regarding colour. From there, artists follow their own creative ideas to bring their very own sea turtle to life on quality watercolour paper.
LITTLE SHOP FRONTS – 15 July OR 17 July, 1pm-3pm
Dress shops, Op shops, bakeries, cake shops, Fishing Tackle shops, toy shops, bicycle shops, cafes, and bookshops. The ideas are endless!
Using alcohol markers on heavyweight poster paper, little artists create a little shop front or a row of their favourite shops. Templates of empty shop fronts will be provided for the younger artists so that they can use a transfer technique and focus on enjoying the design and colouring process.
FABULOUS FLORALS – Thursday 17 July, 10am-12pm
Brighten up this cold winter weather with thoughts of spring on the horizon. In this class artists use oil pastel and acrylic paints on primed mount board to create a vibrant bouquet of flowers in a glass vase. This is a guided exercise that teaches little artists the process of composing then colouring the bouquet in a few easy to manage steps.
WINTER LANDSCAPE PAINTING – 18 July, 10am-12pm
It’s chilly out there in the wild. Embrace the wintery weather with this painting activity from the comfort of a warm and cosy art class. Artists use acrylic paint and paint pens on a stretched canvas to create a wintery landscape in a step by step, guided painting experience.
LUNAR LANDSCAPE PRINTMAKING – 18 July, 1pm-3pm
This activity is a simple introduction to the world of printmaking. Artists are invited to design a night-time scene using line as language to describe the landscape. Once their design is finished artists draw it into styrofoam and print it on heavy weight cartridge paper. Artists learn simple printmaking techniques and print using water- based inks.
