Shetlanders – Exhibition by Jo Hoyne at The Gallery Mt Macedon
Are you a fan of the TV series Shetland? You will know the rugged beauty of the treeless landscape and the dramatic coastline with its steep cliffs and crashing waves. And apparently lots of murders! In reality, while the landscape is just like it is portrayed, it is a safe place, with generous and resilient people.
Local artist Jo Hoyne was privileged to be able to spend a few weeks in the islands, located halfway between Scotland and Norway, in May and June this year.
Her exhibition Shetlanders at The Gallery Mount Macedon is a series of delicately detailed pencil drawings of people she observed while she was there.
The drawings depict people going about their lives, including working on boats, battling the fierce winds to do their shopping, birdwatching, and even knitting using traditional methods.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday 2 Sept to Sunday 5 Oct
