Places – Solo Exhibition by Liz Zylinski

Places plays with form, shape and colour to encourage the viewer to consider if they can trust what they see.
52-56 Mollison Street, Kyneton VIC, Australia

Places plays with form, shape and colour to encourage the viewer to consider if they can trust what they see. This paired with her textured translucence, achieved with her palette knife, gives the viewer the feeling they could be looking through a creased veil, obscuring truths and distorting facts to their viewers own bias.

These pieces are juxtaposed against landscapes in traditional colours, Liz has deliberately made these intensely textured to make the viewer question whether the landscape they are seeing is truly there or if it’s destruction has been covered up and the image doctored.

Liz is fascinated by shape and form, the relationship between them and is constantly inspired by the world around her, urban and rural. A keen traveller, she is inspired by the varying architecture and landscapes around the world particularly of Europe. Liz is also inspired by the vibrant turquoise grounds of Sidney Nolan, the interplay of opaque and transparent glazes of Fred Williams and Miro, and the purity of Mondrian’s lines and colours.
