Learn the art of carving and shaping wax to create your own unique ring. Jewellery made using this technique is carved from a piece of wax first and is then cast in sterling silver. No previous experience is necessary.
Once you have the knowledge, making pieces from wax is something you can continue from home without the need to purchase lots of of expensive tools after the workshop. View the lost wax jewellery making tool kits you can buy from us.
Working with wax is really relaxing, students often describe it as therapeutic. Many people who have completed this workshop have continued making jewellery from wax as a hobby. A number of people have started their own small businesses making and selling their own jewellery.
You can also apply the skills you learn in this workshop to carve brooches, earrings and pendants. You receive making instructions, a list of tools and all the information you will need to get your pieces cast.
For some inspiration on the types of pieces you can make using the lost wax technique, check out the Pod Jewellery Pinterest board on Lost Wax Making.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS HELD OVER TWO HALF DAYS IN THE AFTERNOON. If you’re unable to make the second half of the workshop on the date listed, get in touch to arrange joining the second half of the workshop at a later date.
As this is a half day workshop, some people also choose to also attend the Silver Earring Workshop, which is held in the morning before this workshop. We work directly with sterling silver in the Silver Earring Making Workshop, so you’ll get an understanding of working directly with metal in the morning and then learn a completely different technique of working with wax in the afternoon.
On the first half day you work with wax to carve your ring. The wax rings are then taken to Melbourne to be cast in silver (included in the course cost) or gold or platinum (at an additional cost). We gather again for half a day one week later to finish off our gold and silver rings.
This workshop is a pre-requisite for the Facetted Stone Setting in Wax Workshop.
If you’d like to work directly with silver to make a ring band, rather than making a ring from wax that will be cast in silver, consider attending the one day Silver Ring Workshop.
