An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras.

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. It is considered one of the most comprehensive types of yoga as it entails physical as well as mental components and harnesses a deep sense of connection with self. It is dynamic and uses postures, movement, sound, breath, chanting, as well as incorporating music. These yoga classes are very different from the traditional type of yoga class, as the focus is more about each individual’s experience rather than specific asana techniques.

Kundalini is the term for “a spiritual energy or life force located at the base of the spine”, conceptualised as a coiled-up serpent. The practice of Kundalini yoga is supposed to arouse the sleeping Kundalini Shakti from its coiled base through the 6 chakras, and penetrate the 7th chakra, or crown. It sits dormant at the base of the spine and we encourage by using these practices to awaken this dormant energy centre. The Kundalini energy is our most creative, fully realised potential.

Kundalini Yoga can help balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system and enable us to harness the energy of the mind and emotions, so that we can exercise our free will, rather than be driven by impulses of our thoughts and feelings. Music is an integral part of the class and it can uplift and help us open our hearts. It is true to say, that you never know what to expect when turning up for a Kundalini Yoga class! Oh and if you are new to yoga, you can relax as most of the class everyone has their eyes closed focusing on their own experience.  I look forward to meeting you soon.
