Woodend will host the 2016 Single Speed mountain bike world championships. This annual race is open to all comers and attracts competitors from around the globe who ride only with one gear.
The main event is a 40 kilometre cross-country mountain bike race in Wombat State Forest on Sunday 23rd October. However, the race is a small part of the weekend which has the theme of Carni-velo or festival of the bike. Hanging Rock Reserve, just outside Woodend township, is the focus for the Carni-velo on Saturday with live entertainment and mini races for uni-cycles, kids, Penny Farthings and cyclocross.
