Fragile Fragments – A Textile Exhibition by Elizabeth Harvey
A textile exhibition by Elizabeth Harvey, incorporating cloth, paper, thread, metal cloth wire, and mesh.
Elizabeth says: As long as I can remember, I have been a maker, using my hands and imagination to make. In the last few years, I have added metal materials to my creative work. I know nature is often used to inspire, but I particularly look for the fragile elements as nature begins its journey of decay and the prospect of new life. There is such beauty as leaves change texture and form the sustenance of new beginnings. Seed pods grow, swell, and burst, spreading the potential of new life, eventually fading and dying. I am not trying to replicate nature, but instead interpret this cycle of change from decay to new beginnings, using the fabric, fibre, tools, and techniques that I love to handle.
Wabi Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic concept that finds beauty and serenity in objects, landscapes, designs etc., that are simple imperfect and impermanent. This inspires me.
