Art Exhibition – Imperfect Landscapes
Can the introduction of imperfection to a landscape push the boundaries of landscape photography? Imperfect Landscape by local artist Michelle Thompson is exploring this very notion. Living in regional Victoria, bush and farming landscapes surrounds Michelle, the countryside always seems beautiful and unaffected by traumatic events when I see landscape photographs on social media, galleries or books.
Such images led Michelle to consider the authenticity of these images and look at how she could disrupt the notion of the beautiful landscape to reflect the experience of living in regional Victoria better.
Michelle deliberately used an entry-level camera body that she could use to experiment and push to the boundaries to create the original photographs. It is these original photographs which are the basis of the images within the body of work.
