One Day Ceramic Bowl Workshop for Two People

Held in a studio in the rural farming community of Pastoria East, this one-day workshop caters for absolute beginners through to professional potters seeking to incorporate plaster moulds into their ceramic practice.

Total Value: $390

Dates: Choose from June 1st or October 19 2019.*

Location: Pom-me-granite Studio in Pastoria East.

About The Workshop

Pom-me-granite workshops are held in a working ceramics studio in an inspiring rural setting. You’ll meet like minded souls and gain confidence through gentle guidance and experimentation. On this one day ‘Hump Mould’ (aka ‘Beautiful Bowl’) workshop, you will learn to:

  • Make a set of 4 bowls using hump moulds
  • Make your own plaster hump mould using 1 of 3 demonstrated techniques
  • Glaze your bisque fired bowls (or your tutor Emma will glaze them for you)

The Workshop Includes:

  • Four finished and fired porcelain bowls
  • Your plaster hump mould
  • Morning and afternoon tea

Your Teacher

Emma Jimson is a designer/maker who works with clay to create everyday objects to feed both body and soul. She has a BA in Ceramic Design from Monash University and a Grad Dip in Education from Melbourne University. Emma trained as an apprentice ceramics conservator before running her restoration business Emend restorations for 15 years.

*If the above class dates become booked out prior to the winner accepting their prize, future workshop date options will be offered.

Half Day Lost Trades Artisan Leather Belt Making Workshop for Two People

Join a three hour introduction workshop to leather. At the end of the workshop, you will take home a beautifully hand crafted leather belt with high quality British hardware (buckle/keeper). You will be able to use these skills and techniques to practise and perfect your own leather projects for years to come.

Total Value: $300

Dates: Valid for a leather belt workshop held anytime between April to December 2019 (upcoming class times to be confirmed online shortly).

About the Workshop

Learn about the traditional ‘tools of the trade’ and get to use a selection of beautiful leather hand tools to complete a belt.

The Workshop Includes:

  • Selecting the right leather for the project;
  • Leather grain, cutting, edging and burnishing; and
  • Hand stitching with waxed linen thread in the traditional twin needle method.

All materials and tools are supplied.

Your Teacher

Alan Rundell has a long history in working with leather. He grew up as a drover and stockman in the Victorian high country. Had a family saddlery business. And worked on bridles and decorative leather for the Victorian mounted police branch. The workshop offers an amazing opportunity to learn from Alan’s years of knowledge and craftsmanship.

The Old Auction House in Kyneton offers a variety of art workshops throughout the year, including leadlight windows, mosaics, glass sandblasting, copperfoiling and more. Classes are run by their studio artists and visiting tutors, inside a historic weatherboard building oozing with character. The space is inspiring, welcoming and nurturing, and the studio’s high ceilings and natural light really add to the creative vibe!

Your gift voucher can be used towards any workshop/s of your choice held during 2019, so you can choose a course that really floats your boat.

Art on Piper is a non-profit art collective based on Kyneton’s beautiful Piper Street. The gallery consists of a dynamic group of artists showcasing a diverse range of artworks. Use your $50 gift certificate to spoil yourself (or someone else) with original art from the Macedon Ranges.

Two Woodend Winter Arts Festival Tickets ($80)

Date: 7 – 10 June 2019

Prize: Two tickets to a daytime concert (Concert program release 2 April)*.

With a much anticipated program due to launch on 2 April, the Woodend Winter Arts Festival covers classical music, jazz or world music, literary events and visual arts, a program for young people and children and a series of free community events.

The festival’s classical music program has been broadcast nationally by the ABC Classic FM and internationally by the European Broadcasting Union. The world’s best classical musicians apply to gain selection into the program, which has become widely known for the calibre of artists and performances.

*Winner will be contacted after 2 April with the selection of three daytime concerts to choose from.

Two Tickets to The Sapphires

Coming to the historic Kyneton Town Hall on May 17, this popular production of a beloved modern classic is a funny, heart-warming tale inspired by the true story of writer Tony Brigg’s mother. It tells of the incredible journey of a singing group of four Yorta Yorta Women, who sing Motown soul hits against the backdrop of personal change and massive social upheaval. It is an energetic, fun and engaging play that affirms life and the realisation of dreams.

This evening show offers the perfect excuse to come and stay the night and treat yourself to a special dinner out as well!

Kyneton’s historic town hall hosts a wide variety of shows and events throughout the year.
