Piper St Food Co Cookery School – Classes for Everyone

At Piper St Food Co we like doing things the ‘old school’ way. We like roasting bones and making stocks. We like making sausages by hand – the old fashioned way without preservatives and fillers. We like making terrines & pates using all different cuts of meat. We love composting and our ever expanding veggie patch. We love collecting and sharing the seeds and preserving the bounty. We love teaching kids and adults to cook – so that they too can make some old school choices and cook and eat in a way that is sustainable and good for you. It’s not about buying fancy ingredients; it’s about using what’s on hand and making the most of it with a few simple techniques.

Our Cooking School is based on the philosophy that all cooking is a process of simple steps. Our classes cover the basics from knife sharpening to stocks and soups to the more complex techniques of butchery and charcuterie. We have bread making classes, pasta classes and classes that celebrate the different seasons and different cookery techniques.

Our classes suit home cooks looking for inspiration to professionals wanting to hone a single skill. We are also committed to teaching younger cooks and run school holiday classes each term.

Our classes are kept small to ensure you learn as much as possible. Our participants are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and get hands on.

We regularly host other experts to guide us in our quest to learn more and get better at what we do. We have worked with local heritage gardeners, 5th generation local farmers, expert fermenters and preservers, gluten free bakers and other passionate charcutiers.

Private Classes

Organising your own class with a group of friends or family is a rewarding way to spend time together. By designing your own class you really get to focus on the aspects of cookery that you’re interested in. It may be all about pastry or you may make a 3 course Italian lunch or you may want to learn about regional French cookery. You can choose from our existing classes or we can help you create your ideal class.

You can also just book in and have your lunch or dinner made in front of you in our AGA room.

Corporate Classes

Our corporate classes are designed to be a relaxing time away from the workplace. Cooking together is a rewarding way to work together using different skills to achieving a common goal.
