Romsey

The historic township of Romsey, known for its characteristic streetscape, award winning wineries and country hospitality.

Romsey.jpg From the battered corrugated iron of the local garage to gothic bluestone churches, the impressive red brick facade of the Mechanics Institute Building and turn of the century terraces; the main street of Romsey is lined with classic examples of
Australian architecture.

Romsey has all that you need to stock a picnic hamper for a journey into the Macedon Ranges: organic fruit and vegetables, breads and pastries, meats and choices for coffee and cake can be found along the wide main street.

Many fine wineries call Romsey and surrounds home, offering cellar door sales and large gardens. These are complemented by farm gates selling home grown produce.

For the history enthusiast, Sidney Seymour House is an original cottage built in the early 1850s that presents a slice of life from another time. The Romsey Historical Society can organise access and tours.

Romsey is joined to Lancefield by an easy 8km walking and cycling trail while the hamlets of Monegeetta and Clarkefield and the township of Riddells Creek are accessed from the south.

Nearby Clarkefield boasts the Coach and Horses Inn, a National Trust registered building that serves as the local pub and celebrated its 150th birthday in 2007, rumour has it that the inn is haunted.
