Malmsbury

Everywhere you look in Malmsbury there is art. In the windows of the shops, on the walls of the cafés, and in the open courtyards and gardens. Art is a way of life.

malmsburyWith deep bluestone gutters, corrugated sidings and long veranda overhangs, Malmsbury is a village with a character all of its own.

For food, the Malmsbury Bakery is an institution for those that travel the old Calder Freeway. The bakery prides itself on using local produce in as much of its fare as possible, and the daily hive of activity will indicate that the proof of the quality is truly in the pudding (or the pie!).

Adjacent to the bakery and sharing the same bluestone courtyard, The Stables is a local favourite for wood fired pizza and local wine on weekends.

The Malmsbury Fayre in November is a highlight for locals and visitors alike. The Fayre plays to the strengths of the community featuring music, art exhibitions, fine produce, local wines and kids activities – all with a funky local twist.

The Malmsbury Botanic Gardens were laid out in 1863. Centred about an ornamental lake, the gardens feature some massive examples of exotic and native trees. A short walk to the back of the gardens gives the best vista to the Malmsbury Viaduct, an incredible feat of stone engineering.
