SUMMERSummer is party time in the Macedon Ranges.
The Macedon Ranges, particularly the area surrounding Mt Macedon and Macedon, was a traditional cool escape from the searing Melbourne summer, and relaxing festive break around Christmas for many citysiders. Now, however, the summer season means so much more in the Macedon Ranges, with a range of fun-filled events that make full use of the glorious weather and magnificent landscape. Hanging Rock Reserve takes centre stage for summer events, with an impressive and varied range of events that make the most of the stunning backdrop of the Rock. The historic and ever-popular Hanging Rock race meetings are held on New Years Day and Australia Day at Hanging Rock Racecourse, the perfect way to start the new year. The Macedon District Car Club holds their Picnic and Car Display at Hanging Rock in February, whilst the Rock transforms into a massive open-air theatre for the annual screening of the iconic film ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock’. Hanging Rock also plays host to a bustling food and wine event during summer – The Age Harvest Picnic in February. The best regional producers gather for the Harvest Picnic as thousands of people sip and taste regional cuisine while enjoying a lazy afternoon of indulgence and musical entertainment.
