WALKING TRAILS

Pack up the family and head to the Macedon Ranges for an invigorating walk

walkingThe Macedon Ranges is an ideal location for walking, with gentle hills and challenging peaks surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Walking trails in the Macedon Regional Park, the Lerdederg Gorge State Park and the Cobaw Ranges will delight bushwalkers and orienteers. Marked walking tracks wind there way through natural forest settings, and cater for the leisurely stroll to the strenuous hike.

Over 400 species of native plants have been recorded in the Macedon Regional Park. More than 200 species of birds and a wide variety of mammals, including koalas, kangaroos, swamp wallabies, wombats, possums and gliders live in the Macedon Ranges - so keep your eyes and ears open!


The Sanatorium Lake Walking Trail (2.6kms) is a good way to appreciate the different vegetation zones of the area, while the Macedon Ranges Walking Trail is a 30 kilometre circuit linking Camels Hump and Mount Towrong with the mountain villages of Mount Macedon and Macedon. Abseiling and rock climbing is conducted on Camels Hump on Mount Macedon.

The Campaspe River walk in Kyneton is a lovely stroll through some picturesque countryside, whilst there are 3 nature trails winding through native bushland in Hanging Rock Reserve, offering glimpses of animals and birds (entry fees apply).

The Great Dividing Trail traverses large tracts of bushland in Central Victoria, with four connecting sections totalling 300 kilometres.
