Colenso has been serving Woodend with contemporary style for years. Opened on the site of an old bakery and brought back to life with the clever inclusion of found materials, and the skills of local craftspeople. In 2009, two chefs completed a long held plan for a business of their own and purchased this local secret. Colenso provided the opportunity to build on a tradition. Chef Hal Riches is a wonderfully trained chef with enormous integrity, and knowledge of food and drink. He produces dishes and menus that require great skill and understanding of ingredients and method. He presents handmade modern food from ingredients that make sense for us all. At Colenso we forage for wild foods whenever possible. We raid our own garden constantly. We source from local growers. We compost. We continue to reduce waste. We use products and services from our friends and neighbours. We have a jolly good time, too. Colenso employs local staff, and our service is knowledgable and friendly.
